“Small thoughts fit easily into a closed mind but big thoughts require an open one”

Keeping an open mind is one of the most difficult things to practice. It means you are open to everyone and everything that comes your way – easier said than done! An open mind allows us to embrace different possibilities, opportunities, people, views, suggestions and interests without judgement, prejudice or inflexibility.

Over the past few years, I’ve tried to remain conscious of practicing this in every situation given that it makes life sooo much easier but I’ve still got a lifetime to go before I lay claim to being a master… life experience vs. old habits and all that jazz!

Trying to understand someone from the view they have on life, especially when you disagree or don’t particularly like the person, is empowering – it can change and free your mind in a way you might have never expected and it helps you to avoid getting stuck in a mindset that evokes frustration, anger or helplessness.

Keeping an open mind is one of the most effective methods to simplifying our lives – it’s all about being blank, open and unprejudiced to everything. I’m not encouraging anyone to believe or accept everything, especially if it doesn’t sit well with your own instincts, but what I do encourage is that you do listen, observe, feel and try to comprehend every situation on your path. Just be interested, observe different angles, learn from it and leave it open for discussion. Never think you know, because you don’t – how can you if you don’t yet know it?! The moment you think you know something for sure you are limiting many other possibilities for yourself.

Discover the beauty and power of keeping an open mind and observe how your life evolves, becomes easier and more interesting when you live from a place free of judgement.

If you regularly slip back to the old habits of ‘I know best’, try new ways of challenging yourself. Be open to other possibilities and opportunities. Step out of your comfort zone. Expand your horizon and evolve your ‘self’. Without doing so, you may never know what beautiful and life changing people and things could be hidden just around the next corner…
